EVICTION MORATORIUM EXPIRING TODAY JANUARY 15TH, 2022

The statewide eviction moratorium is ending TODAY: January 15th, 2022.

NYCHA has been texting and calling residents about the end of the moratorium telling them to get their money in order, indicating that NYCHA is ready to start evictions.

NYCHA tenants CAN and SHOULD submit an ERAP (Emergency Rental Assistance Program) application if they need rent support. If people need this support, they should apply now, and can do so here: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/emergency-rental-assistance/

  1. When applying to ERAP, tenants need to inform NYCHA about the ERAP application so NYCHA can fill out their portion. To do that, tenants should email erap.fin@nycha.nyc.gov with their ERAP application number, date of birth, first name, last name, development name, address and nine-digit NYCHA account number.
  2. The website says the state is not expecting to be able to support NYC residents BUT RESIDENTS SHOULD APPLY ANYWAY. An active application will provide temporary protection against eviction.

*For smaller arrears portions, tenants can try to apply for rent grants through Catholic Charities and Coalition for the Homeless.
