Harlem River Houses Residents Reject RAD with Rent Strike
What: Rally against RAD conversion at Harlem River Houses
When: Saturday, May 1st, 2021, 1 pm
Where: Gather at Colonel Charles Young Triangle, 153 St, and Macombs Pl. We will walk together to the HRH Management Office at 152 St and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.
Who: Tenants struggling against the management and proposed RAD plan at Harlem River Houses will be joined by tenants and activists from across the city to say no to RAD.
Why: Over one hundred residents signed a petition delivered to leading officials as well the directors of the banks posed to take control over the property, stating they did not want to be forced into signing a lease with a new ownership that they never consented to, as well as an alarming pattern of dire neglect of maintenance in the run-up to the proposed take-over. Following lack of response to this demand, tenants organized a rent-strike, set to begin on May 1, together with tenants in Fulton Housing. At a time when leading members of congress have guaranteed billions of funding for public housing infrastructure, the argument that unloading public housing assets to predatory management companies and to corporate financial interests rings hollow to residents who demand accountability–a point also highlighted in a letter sent this week by attorney, activist, and city council candidate Arthur Scwartz to the CEO of NYCHA Gregg Russ as well as to DeBlasio, and other electeds.

This ‘truth commission’ will be hosted on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at 7 pm on Zoom.
